SUMMARY:Look to nature – the power of nature-based solutions to tackle climate change
DESCRIPTION:From trees and peat to saltmarsh and seaweed. Find out more about how we can mitigate climate change through Scotland’s precious natural assets and ecosystems. \nNature-based solutions (NbS) are solutions to societal challenges that involve working with nature to deliver benefits for both people and biodiversity. In this event we aim to explain the role that NbS can play in the mitigation of climate change and other major challenges such as disaster risk reduction. We also explain why this concept is becoming so key to Scotland’s plans to tackle the climate emergency and how the University of St Andrews is leading the way. \nHosted by Sir Ian Boyd\, Professor of Biology and Co-Chair of the First Minister’s Environmental Council\, our expert speakers will include: \n\nDr Clive Mitchell\, Outcome Manager: Nature and Climate Change at NatureScot\nProfessor William Austin\, Chair of the Scottish Blue Carbon Forum and Professor in the School of Geography & Sustainable Development\, University of St Andrews\nProfessor Anne Magurran\, Professor of Ecology and Evolution in the Centre for Biological Diversity and Scottish Oceans Institute at the University of St Andrews\n\nThe evening will include networking opportunities\, followed by keynote presentations on the subject of nature-based solutions and an opportunity to put your questions to the speakers. \nBook your ticket here \nNumbers are limited to allow participants to physically distance if they wish \nThis is one of a series of events from the University of St Andrews marking the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26)\, a pivotal point in our fight against the devastation of climate change.
